Long Votes to Secure the Border

"We must secure the border and ensure these children are sent home. This legislation provides funding to put the National Guard on the border to help the border patrol secure our southern border and ensure the children here illegally will be returned to their home countries. We must send a message to all who seek to come here illegally that they will not be allowed to stay," Long said.

At no additional cost to hard working taxpayers this measure provides funding through September 30, 2014. The legislation provides the Department of Homeland Security with funding to enhance border security operations and to speed up processing and detention operations.

The Trafficking Victims Protection and Reauthorization Act of 2008 is amended to require all unaccompanied minors be treated the same for the purpose of removals. In addition, the legislation also includes prohibitions on the Secretaries of the Interior and Agriculture from denying or restricting border patrol activities on federal land within 100 miles of the southern border.

Long also voted to prohibit federal funding from being used to continue or expand President Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which the president created when he issued an executive order in June 2012.
